Parents: Be Aware

The Safety Committee has inspected the section of Uvas Creek that runs parallel to the north end of Eagle Ridge.  This area has many large caves and tunnels that have been cut into the creek bed walls.  The area is also known for its homeless encampments.

The Gilroy Police department has removed the people that were trespassing on this property.  They are committed to preventing the trespassers from returning. Unfortunately, the land is not a part of Eagle Ridge.  It is owned by various individuals and government agencies.  This makes it difficult in getting the situation rectified.  Gilroy Police Department Community Services is trying to get the appropriate land owners to take responsibility for their sites.

As parents, you should discuss the dangers of this area with your children.  It is not a place they should be visiting on their own.  There are lots of excellent recreation areas in Eagle Ridge and near by with more on the way.  Remember that an important part of safety is communications.  Please talk with your children today!
